Another classic recipe from one of my grandmothers. This recipe is my absolute favorite for oatmeal cookies. I love the flavor and texture of these Old Fashioned Oatmeal Cookies. Eat them warm with a cold glass of milk and you’ll be sure to enjoy them too! I also like leaving out the nutmeg and adding in mini chocolate chips for a delightful change.

Old Fashioned Oatmeal Cookie Recipe
(Yields approx. 4 dozen)
Ingredients
1 cup butter, room temperature
¾ cup packed brown sugar
½ cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
3 cups oatmeal
Feeling adventurous? Add in 1 ½ cups of chocolate chips or raisins (leave out the nutmeg)!
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375° F.
- Cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar.
- Beat in egg and vanilla.
- Combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon (and nutmeg if using).
- Add flour mixture to butter mixture and mix well.
- Stir in oats.
- Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake 8-9 minutes, until lightly golden.
- Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
