Delicious, flavorful and exceptionally easy and versatile, this gold cake recipe is a sure winner! Passed down from my grandmother, who used to make this in a loaf pan instead of an 8×8, my family loves this cake recipe. It’s quick to make and I love that you can easily add one of a variety of add-ins for a change. We really enjoy this cake plain, too. You can also choose to add icing or a glaze to top it off!
If you choose to do an add-in with this recipe, flouring certain ones like glace fruit or raisins will help keep them from sinking to the bottom of the cake. If you choose to make it in a loaf pan increase the baking time by approximately 10 minutes. Use a toothpick in the center to check that it is done.

Gold Cake Recipe
Ingredients
½ cup butter, room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
4 egg yolks
½ cup milk
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder, leveled
⅛ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8×8 pan.
- In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of your stand mixer, cream butter and sugar together. Add egg yolks and mix well
- In a medium mixing bowl combine all dry ingredients
- Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternating with the milk
- Add vanilla and mix*.
- Bake for 35 minutes, use a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake to check if it is done
*After this step you can add nuts, chocolate chips, glace fruit (floured), raisins (floured), or enjoy it plain!
